bottle of pecharmant wine

We are so lucky to live close to many wine producing areas here, indeed there even is a wine produced in Meyrals itself.  But our favourite is Pecharmant.  Grown in the area to the North East of Bergerac Pecharmant (the name means ‘charming hill’) has been classified AOC and has been producing wine since the 11th century.  The supermarkets have a great selection at a very cheap price, so indulge yourself when you are here, because you wont find this in the UK, unless you know some very exclusive wine merchants.  The wine is a blend of four grapes – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc.  The resulting wine is best between 4 and 10 years holding and is full bodied with a lot of fruit; perfect for drinking whilst eating game, duck, strong cheeses or just in front of the fire.

You can visit Chateau de Tiregand on the road to Bergerac at Creysse, and they offer tastings and opportunities to buy direct (the owner speaks excellent English).  Worth a visit.  See their website for details.
